Struggling US and European airlines may be hit with more taxes this year as separate initiatives are underway. In the US, the Bush Administration wants to increase the passenger security tax from $250 for segment, or a maximum of $10 by roundtrip, to $5.50 per part up to a maximum of $16 through roundtrip. The tax on a one-way ticket would rise to $8 below the FY06 proposal. Congress must approve the increase and airlines are lobbying heavily against
