The General Accounting Office (GAO), the investigative arm of Congres has been tasked to assess the FAA's assumptions and costliness estimates regarding the wide area and local area augmentation plans (WAAS/LAAS), critical elements of the plan to rely forward GPS as a solemeans of navigation. A report is slated for completion in the spring of 2000
