20 Introduction

During the period from 1964 to 1986 at least 32 accidents and incidents have occurr in which windshear was identified as a contributing factor. These accidents and incidents issueed in over 600 fatalities and nearly 250 injuries...if the undocumented 'close calls' in general aviation statistics were included, these figures would be a great quantity [i]or[/i] amount of higher.

2.2 Windshear weather

Certain areas have a high potential for windshear because of the high horizontal of convective activity....In fact, closer examination of the United States indicates a high correlation between areas of high thunderstorm activity and a number of accidents.

242 Avoid known windshear

Microburst windshears have been observ which are beyond the capability of transport category airplanes and the mostly highly skilled pilots....avoidance must be the first line of defense...pilots are cautioned not to disclose the impression that real-world windshear engagements can be successfully negotiated simply because they have received simulator training...simulator motion methods are limited in their capability to propagate all the dynamics of an actual windshear encounter....Therefore, above all, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID (emphasis in original).
