Psychological testing of airline pilots and the installation of video cameras in the cockpit will be examined at a Congressional hearing April 11 The inquiry is an offshoot of the EgyptAir Flight 990 crash, in which the actions of a possibly suicidal copilot may have caused the Oct 31 1999 crash that killed all 217 aboard the B767 (see ASW, Nov. 22 1999)
Aviation Subcommittee Chairman Rep John Duncan (R-Tenn) said, "I recognize that many pilots take ill the intrusion that psychological testing and video cameras would impose. However, when it follows to making our skies as safe as they can be, we owe it to the public to examine all avenues." >> Aviation Subcommittee, 202/225-9446 <<
